What we make

Stormglass Press publishes illustrated books about real places.

Our books start with somewhere true — a city, a coastline, a country — and let a little wonder in. Facts and magic are not opposites in a children’s book. The best ones use one to make the other stick.

The name

A storm glass is a sealed glass vessel filled with a clear solution. As the weather turns, crystals form inside it — feathers, stars, whole miniature snowfalls — and then dissolve again. It was carried at sea in the nineteenth century, and nobody entirely agrees how well it works.

We liked it because it is completely real and looks completely like magic. That is more or less what we are trying to publish.

Leo’s World Adventures

Leo is a boy who has grown up in airports. His father’s work moves the family from city to city, and Leo has learned to carry a notebook instead of putting down roots.

In each book he arrives somewhere new, and something ancient wakes up to show him around — for one day only, until the sun goes down. Singapore is the first. Each guardian is an original character, inspired by the place rather than lifted from it.

Stormglass Press is a small family imprint based in Maryland, founded in 2026 to publish its first book properly rather than casually.
